About Me

Hello! you’re reading Shriphani Palakodety’s blog. I am a rising junior in Department of Computer Science at Purdue. This blog is a collection of knowledge I have managed to accumulate since 2007.

At Purdue, I have aimed to provide two dimensions to my education:

  • Exposing myself to a broad range of topics spanning several areas of computer science.
  • Being able to employ computing concepts to fields like bioinformatics and VIS – I do this by working in research labs at Purdue.

I have so far spent > 1 year working with Professor Kihara and his graduate student Meghana Chitale in the Kihara Bioinformatics Laboratory and I spent a summer working with Dr. David Ebert and SungYe Kim in the PURPL laboratory where I worked on an emergency response system and learned about information visualization.

Besides my coursework, I love learning about audio signals and how they work (digital signal processing). This is of course restricted to my spare time. I currently use topics such as Voice Activity Detection (and other DSP topics) in my project Listener.

Before I came to Purdue, I attended the Hyderabad Public School and FIITJEE Junior College for high school in Hyderabad, India. If you are looking for decent schools for your kids, definitely consider these – they will provide your kid with a good education and also help him/her make very nice friends (although I must mention that HPS was an all boys school for over 1/2 of this century and the current male-female ratio is very indicative of that history).

A list of courses I took at Purdue and brief descriptions of projects I worked on are available on my Resume.

Besides my coding activities, during my high school years I undertook the task of authoring the Python on unix document for the Python Software Foundation and I also created the materials module for PySoy under the Google Highly Open Participation Contest. Descriptions of what I did can be found here and here.

I also dabble in Number Theory, Cognition and Memory issues. Whatever I’ve done can be found this blog.

In true otaku spirit, I like watching Anime that take place in an alternative universe or in the future. I also like collecting action figures, die-cast vehicle models and die-cast planes.
